Picture Of The Day

Rock-A-Bye Baby...No More

So...for the last year or so (ever since Nathan has been on a "set" schedule...meaning 2 naps a day and bedtime at 8 or 8:30), we have had a nighttime ritual of taking a bath, getting Jim-Jams on, and then we rock him while he drinks a bottle. When his bottle was finished he would hand it over and grunt for his "bink". We then would lie him in bed with Mr. Bear, and walk out. We wouldn't hear anything from him until the sun came up. Well, last week...that all changed...

I believe I had a meeting to go to, so Jonathon put him to bed last Tuesday night. When I got home I asked if he went down okay and Jonathon told me that he didn't want to be rocked, so he just put him in his bed with his bottle and that was it. I thought surely it was just a fluke and that Nathan just wasn't tired...I denied that the "rocking" days were over. I sooo, didn't want to believe it. That was my favorite thing to do...hold him and rock him. It was the only time he really let us cuddle him. Normally he grabs a hug or a kiss real quick, so he can be on his way up the stairs or chasing a cat or something.

Alas, our Boy is growing up! The next night, he didn't want to be rocked either...and hasn't since the last night I did it, over a week ago. It is quite sad really. He is growing up. Pretty soon he is going to beg me to drop him off three blocks away from school! He wont want to be seen with me in public!

On the brighter side...even though his Rock-A-Bye days are over, he has become more cuddly during the day and right after his naps. Also, he does give "loves" whenever requested...which I really TRY to keep to a minimum of 9,586,828,532 times a day. I wouldnt want him to be TOO lovey! ;)

Adjustments

Whoever thought of the whole Day Light Savings Time (Fall Back! Spring Forward!) obviously did not have a 14 month old!

Back In The Day...

Nan and Paps bought Nathan this hat while they were on vacation to Florida a couple of weeks ago. He so reminds me of my Grandfather (my Dad's dad). He used to work on the railroad in Wyoming, and until his dying day, he would wear a hat very similar to this.

Of course Jonathon would say that this is a golfer's hat... ;) Regardless, it is dang cute!

Halloween Preview

Does it STINK in here?

Good Times!

Just another drawer that Nathan has discovered. Oh how he LOVES to take ALL of the clean, folded, neatly organized dish towels out and "reorganize" them for me. :)

Henry's Ark

Just outside of Louisville, there is this place called Henry's Ark. It is basically a very large "petting zoo", but the animals that are there to be "petted" are camels, yaks, deer, goats, llamas, ostriches, peacocks, ducks, rabbits, mules, reindeer, zebras, etc...basically animals that you wouldn't expect to find in Louisville, KY...or in North America for that matter (okay, yes...obviously ducks, goats, mules, and rabbits are not rare and you would find them anywhere...but a zebra? or a camel? You get the picture). I took Nathan to Henry's Ark a couple of weeks ago with Keaton. It was a real cold day, and we did not go prepared...meaning, we didn't have any food to feed the animals...we will next time though :) This place is completely FREE, and thrives on donations only. It is a great place to bring kids and a lot of the animals are allowed to just wander (as you can see above). They are VERY tame and well mannered. It is a really cool place to visit! I mean, how many times in your life have you gotten to PET a zebra or camel? Not many.

On to the REAL story...did Nathan enjoy it? Yes, he liked it...until the mule/donkey (whatever it was...I obviously need to go back to school and learn my animals) nibbled at his little fingers! It appeared as though the mule/donkey was just lightly nibbling with his lips at Nathan's fingers, but apparently not, since Nathan started crying and there were teeth marks on his finger (way to go MOM! ;)). Anyways, no skin was broken and he stopped crying as soon as his Sucker-of-a-Mom (ahem, that's me!) let him out of his stroller. I think back on it now, and the Little Stinker was playing me! MAYBE that mule/donkey didn't nip at his finger at all...maybe it was a ploy to get out of his stroller and run FREE? ;) How quickly they learn!

Definately His Mother's Son...

When I was a toddler...so I am told...I would do this thing where I would scrunch up my nose, show my teeth and breathe in and out real loud. My Mom always brings this up when she sees another child doing that: "Rach, you used to do that all the time." So it brings me GREAT pleasure that Nathan has started doing the same thing...I get the feeling that MOST kids do this at some point in their Toddlerhood, and that the trick is not special to me...however...it is still dang cute, and I like to think that Nathan got SOMETHING from me, even if it is a funny face. ;)

Anyone Care For a Lima Bean?

'Cause Nathan sure doesnt want one!

The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

On a trailer ride to the pumpkin patch.

Here it is!!! Our pumpkin!

Over the weekend we went to Huber's to let Nathan pick a pumpkin. I think we all would have had an even more enjoyable time if it weren't 94degrees outside! Alas, it was fun...we met up with Keaton Walker and his parents and let the boys run around the pumpkin patch, pet a horse and eat ice cream! It will definitely be a tradition...

(P.S. There are even more photos of Huber's here: http://www.dropshots.com/rachbree)

Gotta Wear Shades

Wax On, Wax Off Grasshopper...

For those of you that know Jonathon, you know that he loves golf. Not just loves golf, he LOVES LOVES LOVES golf. He is actually VERY good at it, and if he could live his REAL dream (you know the other dream besides being tied down to a wife, a job, a kid and a mortgage payment) he would play golf 7 days a week, 36 holes a day...on the best golf courses in the world, with Tiger Woods. Alas...it was only a matter of time before he began lessons on his little protege. So far, Nathan could really care less about the game, just give him a golf ball to carry around and he is happy.

Purple Mustache

Salt and Pepper Anyone?

Nathan's new favorite place to play is the spice rack/drawer. He really kets a kick out of the salt and pepper shakers.

Maybe he will be a Chef when he grows up?

Finished Product

This is the finished product from Nathan's haircut. He was NOT a happy boy just seconds before this picture was taken...hence the red, flushed face. He is no longer a baby in any way now. He is a little boy...and he wears it well.
Also, additional photos can be found at: http://www.dropshots.com/rachbree.

First Haircut

The day has come...Nathan needed a haircut. It gave Nan and Paps great pleasure to be able to set up an appointment at "Charlies" This was the same place that Jonathon got his haircut for the first time (and continued to get his haircut until college, so I am told). Nathan did extremely well, until about 10 minutes into it, and he was just plain tired of being held in one place. THEN, he just got irritated because he was STILL being held in one place, and some strange guy kept touching his head and cutting his hair. THEN he just got ANGRY and WANTED TO GO NOW! Luckily, Jonathon came to the rescue at just the right time...and Nathan calmed down and was able to let Charlie finish the cut. Needless to say, Nathan is not begging to go get his haircut again anytime soon ;)
