Stop And Smell The Flowers

Nathan has learned to "smell". He is very good at it. He even makes the "smell" noise with his nose.

Fun With A Tape Measure

It's the simple things that make life so entertaining! A tape measure! Who knew?!?!

The Thing With The Shoe

A few weeks ago, I proudly commented to a friend that Nathan does not have a "lovey" (for those of you that don't know that term...a lovey is a stuffed animal, blanket, or toy that a lot of kids fall in love with and HAVE to carry it everywhere. They just cannot live without it, and it is the end of the world if it gets lost, left or breaks.). Well, I should have said "Nathan does not have a lovey...yet." because in the last few days he has really taken to a couple of things. The first thing that has major potential to being his lovey is this little bear/blanket that "Auntie Val" bought him when he was born. Its half bear, half blanket and it has his name and birthday on it. I have put this bear/blanket ON his bed out of his reach to keep it nice, as a keepsake. Well, he has begun to take it down and sleep with it. We are now to the point where he HAS to have it when he takes a nap and goes to bed...and he has started wanting to take it out of his bed and bring it with him downstairs. It is VERY cute by the way! He just hugs on it and loves on it.

The second "potential" lovey is his....shoe. Yes, one of his little crocs. Yesterday, he started carrying one shoe around wherever he went...and he wouldn't just carry it, he would put it on his hand and "carry" it on his hand. I desperately need to get a picture of this, as it appears this is going to be a keeper (he woke up this morning looking for his shoe and immediately put it on his hand while eating breakfast etc...).

Tickle Me...

SO, Nathan's "Auntie Val" sent him a Tickle Me Elmo TMX for his birthday...at first Nathan didn't really want anything to do with him, but he is warming up to him and starting to giggl when Elmo does his thing.

For the record, I find Elmo hilarious!!

And He's Off...

Its official. Nate Dawg is walking...

Sprouting Out of Nowhere

I was changing Nathan's diaper this morning, and he was laughing at something...and something in his mouth caught my eye. Hmmm...I wondered, what the heck is that???? I looked closer and realized that HE HAS HIS TOP MOLARS (or however you spell the back teeth in your mouth). Uh, yeah...they are through the gums and well on their way. Right now, they look like fangs back there...

BUT when the heck did that happen? This child is sprouting teeth all over the place. In the last 3 weeks or so, he has gotten 4 more teeth in the front (two on top and two on bottom), and apparently two in the way way back.

I give him 6 months and he will have a full mouth.

He certainly isnt a baby anymore, folks.

Bed Head

Yes, this is what Nathan's hair looked like when he woke up from his nap today. I have no idea what was going on while he was sleeping, but apparently it was a battle! This is the ultimate definition of "Slept with an egg beater"!

I Scream, You Scream...

Because he shoved so much cake into his mouth at his Birthday Partay, we didn't get around to giving Nathan any ice cream on his Birthday...so we took the opportunity to give him a little taste last night. A couple of things to note:

1. He has had ice cream before, and will again, we just don't give it to him on a regular basis (we are both addicted to the stuff, and don't want that for him. Plus there are better for you snacks and treats out there to have).

2. Notice the gargantuan tub of ice cream in Jonathon's arms (yes in his arms, not his hands...it takes arms to carry that large of a tub!)...don't think that we purchase this large of a tub of ice cream on a daily/weekly/monthly/regular basis. I bought this tub at Sam's for Nathan's Partay...:)

Vroom Vroom For Real!

We ventured to The Mall (yes, in Louisville, the name of one of the malls is...The Mall. Yeah, I thought it was strange when I moved here too!) yesterday and Nathan got to play on the toys that they have there. His favorite was the car ride (that cost $1, which I didn't have, but the thing was jammed anyways). According to the other parents there, I am very lucky that Nathan doesn't realize that the car takes money or even moves. I agree! He had a blast just sitting there, acting like he was driving.

Favorite Toy

One of Nathan's favorite toys is this red car. He is ALL boy, and he makes the "vroom vroom" sound when he plays with it (or his version of vroom vroom). :)

The Stats...

Yesterday, Nathan had his 12 month well-check...and here is how he weighs in:

Weight: 24lbs, 9oz
Height: 31 1/4 inches

They didn't give percentages, but Jonathon looked them up online and came up with 90% for both. The doc said he is healthy and doing well!

Some updates for you:

He is eating all solid foods, aside from the occasional applesauce or left over baby food that I have hanging around. He prefers to feed himself rather than be fed, and as of now, he shows NO interest in using a spoon to do that. Its all hands...which ends up everywhere. He should probably get 3 baths a day because it is such a mess these days! :)

He is down to 1 bottle a day, and that is a bedtime. He hasn't seemed to miss it at all...or even notice that something has been changed. I could probably get rid of his nighttime bottle, though I do think he is a little more attached to that one than the others.

He also does not use his Bink (pacifier) at all, unless it is nap time or bed time. I think, though, in the next week or so we are going to put that away too. :)

He is drinking whole milk now, and seems to enjoy it, though he doesn't really like to drink it out of a sippy cup. So...we are working on that and trying to get him used to it.

The doctor asked, at his appointment, if he was saying any words...I asked, in response, "what is your definition of a word?". Nathan says "mooo" but it is "oooooh". Or he will quack like a duck, but it isn't "quack, quack" it is "waaac waaac". He is saying words, but not with the correct pronunciation. It is darn cute though! He also barks like a dog and says good and go.

He is pretty much walking, though still a little wobbly and unsure. He still doesn't go strait to walking from a sitting position alone. He has to pull himself up on something and then walk to something else. If there isn't anything at the other end of his destination, or if he finds himself in the middle of a room, alone...standing...he plops to his butt and crawls the rest of the way. It won't be long though that he will build his confidence and be off!

The Fair

There are two things one can count on in Louisville in August:

1. It is HOT!

2. The Kentucky State Fair

Last Monday, Nathan's Grand Mom and Grand Dad took him to the Kentucky State Fair to see all of the animals. It was the middle of the day so there was a lot of transistion of the animals, but Nathan was able to see goats, milk cows, chickens, piglets, a llama, mules, sheep, a couple of ducks and roosters. He was doing great and really enjoying himself until a sheep that he was petting "baaaaaaaaaa"d at him. He did NOT like that at all, and made sure everyone knew it (it scared him). After that he was a little aprehensive when he got close to the animals. He LOVED being able to pet the mule, and by the end of the day he was tuckered out. :) He really had a great time!

Obligatory Spaghetti Post

Every child has (or SHOULD have) a picture of them eating spaghetti for the first time...and Nathan shouldn't be any different!

Shout Out!

Here is a shout out to Oh! Audrey Audrey for turning ONE on August 19 :)

A Whole New World!

FINALLY, Nathan can now sit facing forward in his carseat! He LOVES it! He talks to the truckers, and giggles at the lights. Its a whole new world for him!

The Outfit

Of course, on such a special day, the Bithday Boy needed a special shirt. :)

The Gifts!

Nathan got lots of good books, some clothes, some money for his College Fund and a cute little piggy bank! He wasnt real into opening the gifts...but he sure liked what was inside! :)
